Why participate in the Hippocrene Prize 2021 ?  

Questions and answers about the Hippocrene Prize for European Education
 
The Hippocrene Foundation organizes, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, and the support of the Representation in France of the European Commission, a contest entitled “Hippocrene Prize for Education in Europe”. This contest aims to encourage exchanges with young Europeans, the discovery of another culture, through mobility, whether real or virtual.

When and how is it possible to apply?
 
Applications are open from December 7, 2020 to January 27, 2021 and are to be written online on the interface of the Hippocrene Foundation website for projects of institutions related to national education from the page http://fondationhippocrene.eu/prix-2021/ by clicking on “participate in the prize”.
An automatic confirmation email will be sent to you once your application is submitted. It will then be automatically forwarded to the academic delegation for European and international relations and cooperation (DAREIC) of your academy, which will make an initial selection of the applications received.
 
For schools under the authority of the Ministry of Agriculture, please refer to the service note that will be published soon.
 
Who can participate in the competition?
 
The competition is open to all primary or secondary level classes in schools, colleges, general high schools and vocational high schools (4 separate classifications) in public or private education under contract in the 30 French academies and is also open to all technical and higher education agricultural establishments, public and private under contract.
 
What are the terms of participation?
 
Are eligible all types of active partnership in 2020 with a school located :
– in a member state of the European Union,
– in one of the 4 countries of the European Free Trade Association – EFTA (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland)
– in an official candidate country to the European Union (Albania, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey)
– or the United Kingdom.
If the partnership is carried out with several countries, it is necessary that at least one of the partner countries meets this criterion, the other countries being able to be external to those mentioned previously.
 
What types of partnerships are eligible?
 
– Partnership active in 2021 (either an old partnership reactivated or a new project launched this year)
– The partnership may involve one or more disciplines and does not exclude any exchange theme
– The possible acquisition of language and intercultural skills can be put into perspective.
– The partnership must be initiated and confirmed at the time of submission of the application.
– The students must have started working on the project.
– The project must include a mobility project and a meeting with the partner, but it is not necessary for this mobility to have been carried out at the time of the application submission.
– The application will have to put in perspective one/several common production(s) realized in the framework of the partnership.
– Given the health context a physical mobility to meet the partners is not considered a mandatory criterion as it could be the case in previous years. It can however be staggered in time. Any innovative project in terms of virtual mobility will be looked at with attention by the jury.

How is the selection of the awardees done?
 
For national education institutions:
 
– A pre-selection of projects will be carried out by each academy which will have to select between January 30 and February 7, 2021 Two projects per category, provided that the academy receives at least 3 projects in the category (i.e. a maximum of 8 projects in total) for its academy directly online on the backoffice of the Hippocrene Foundation website (the identifiers are sent to the DAREIC by email).
– The pre-selected applications will be evaluated by the pre-selection jury, organized by the Hippocrene Foundation, which is in charge of selecting 3 files per category, all academies included, i.e. 12 files.
 
For the agricultural education category:
A memo note has been published
 
The Grand Jury:
These 15 finalist submissions (12 submissions from the 4 national education categories as well as the 3 finalists in the agricultural education category) will be evaluated by a jury of experts who will decide on the awarding of the 6 prizes (one prize for each of the 5 categories and one Grand Prize, all categories combined). The jury will be asked to audition the finalists.
 
Date of the auditions before the jury: they will take place over one day between March 22 and April 1, 2021.
 
What are the rewards of this competition?
 
A total of six awards are funded in this competition:
 
– 5 prizes of 5,000 euros, one per school category (primary school, junior high school, general high school, vocational high school, agricultural education)
– A special jury prize of 10,000 euros, each of which is intended to finance the implementation of the winning projects designated by the jury in all categories
– If the health and social context allows it, a delegation of winners will be invited to Strasbourg in the heart of the European institutions for the prize-giving ceremony, which will take place in the presence of European and educational personalities (travel from the city of the winning establishment, the day before the ceremony-dinner, night and breakfast at the youth hostel, lunch at the European Parliament). Other award arrangements may be considered.
Pictures and videos to showcase your work!
 
During the implementation of your project, do not forget to take regular photos (in good definition) and to make small videos to see the students working on the project. This will be very useful to enhance your project.
